The livelihood training in Barangay Balabag stands as a testament to the pursuit of SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, specifically by encouraging entrepreneurship in aquaculture and enabling access to livelihood opportunities for the PWD sector. Social Work students from North Valley College provided participants with the technical foundation to start their own businesses in hito and tilapia growing. By focusing on sustainable practices and community-based training, the initiative promotes an environment where PWDs can secure decent, self-generated employment.

The program was meticulously designed to ensure the PWD individuals were empowered with both technical and entrepreneurial skills. Beyond the hands-on demonstration of fingerling care, feeding, and pond preparation, resource persons discussed harvesting techniques and crucial basic marketing strategies. The distribution of learning materials on fish farming and small-scale entrepreneurship further cemented the focus on business development, enabling participants to transition from training attendees to self-sufficient fish farmers.

The outcomes highlight a significant step toward inclusive economic development: PWD participants are empowered with practical knowledge, and there is an increased interest in forming a home-based or group livelihood centered around fish farming. This initiative promotes inclusive and sustainable income-generating opportunities, showcasing how targeted training can lead to impactful and responsible economic growth. By supporting the PWD sector in becoming entrepreneurs, the training has given them the renewed confidence and practical knowledge to contribute economically to their community.
