North Valley College (NVC) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region XII held a coordination meeting this morning to formalize a collaborative partnership for the Tara Basa Program, a flagship initiative aimed at supporting struggling young learners and strengthening parental involvement in education.

The meeting brought together NVC administrators, program coordinators, and representatives from the DSWD Field Office XII to discuss roles, expectations, and implementation plans. Under this partnership, selected and qualified NVC students will serve as volunteer tutors for children identified by the Department of Education (DepEd) and DSWD as non-readers or slow readers. These volunteers will provide focused reading sessions to help learners gain foundational literacy skills essential for their academic success.

Aside from tutoring, the NVC volunteers will also act as parent-partners companions who will assist parents in fulfilling their responsibilities as key stakeholders in their childrenโ€™s learning journey. This component of the Tara Basa program supports the belief that education is most effective when families, schools, and communities work together.

DSWD Region XII officials lauded North Valley College for its enthusiasm and readiness to contribute to the program, emphasizing that community-based involvement is vital to improving childrenโ€™s educational outcomes. The collaboration also opens opportunities for NVC students to engage in meaningful service-learning experiences that blend academic knowledge with real-world community impact.

North Valley College reaffirmed its strong commitment to forging partnerships with government agencies, schools, and civic groups to uplift childrenโ€™s education and strengthen communities. NVC underscored that initiatives like Tara Basa align with the institutionโ€™s mission to cultivate socially responsible students who actively participate in community development.

As the coordination wraps up, both institutions expressed optimism that the partnership will significantly contribute to addressing literacy gaps in North Cotabato and foster deeper parent-child engagement in education. The Tara Basa Program rollout is expected to begin soon, with continuing dialogue to ensure its smooth and effective implementation.

North Valley College looks forward to sustaining this collaboration and expanding future partnerships that empower learners and promote holistic community development.
