North Valley College celebrates its first-ever World Philosophy Day on November 22, 2024, at the NVC Activity Hub, with a theme, โ€œThe Future of Governance and Sustainability: Navigating a Changing Landscape”.

Organized in coordination with Dr. Rogelio P. Bayod, NVC Quality Assurance Specialist, and supported by BSPsy II, BSMT III, and BSCS IV students, the event aimed to spark meaningful dialogue on the ethical and practical challenges shaping the modern world.

The event was attended by NVC students and faculty, with the presence of guest participants from Southern Baptist College and the University of Southern Mindanaoโ€™s Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy Department.

Two prominent philosophers from Ateneo de Davao University headlined the event as keynote speakers. Dr. Ian Clark Parcon delivered an enlightening lecture on โ€œUnderstanding the Normative Grounding of Philippine Democracy,โ€ providing a deep dive into governance’s ethical and cultural foundations. Dr. Ryan Christopher Maboloc followed with his timely discourse on โ€œInformation Ethics and its Implication to Democracy.โ€ shedding light on the ethical challenges posed by the digital age and its impact on democratic processes.

An interactive open forum allowed participants to engage with the speakers, raising questions about governance and sustainability challenges in todayโ€™s dynamic political and environmental landscapes.

This first-ever celebration of World Philosophy Day demonstrates the school’s dedication to academic excellence and its goal of fostering a sense of ethical leadership and critical thinking in its students. As this groundbreaking event came to an end, attendees departed with new insights and the ability to successfully negotiate the challenges of sustainability and governance in a rapidly changing world.
