In support of Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, North Valley College Foundation Inc. has implemented the Sustainable Canteen Initiative to promote eco-friendly and responsible practices within the school community. This initiative encourages the canteen to use biodegradable materials and locally sourced food ingredients, aiming to reduce environmental impact while fostering sustainability. By introducing these changes, the school demonstrates its commitment to creating a cleaner, greener, and more responsible campus environment.
The Sustainable Canteen Initiative focuses on replacing single-use plastics such as utensils, cups, and food containers with reusable or biodegradable alternatives. It also promotes โMeatless Mondayโ to encourage students to try healthy, plant-based options while supporting local farmers through the use of locally sourced ingredients. In addition, a waste disposal and segregation system has been established in campus areas. This is to ensure proper waste management and reduce landfill contributions. These combined efforts highlight the importance of conscious consumption and sustainable waste practices. Through this program, North Valley College Foundation Inc. not only minimizes plastic waste but also instils environmental responsibility among students and staff. The integration of waste segregation and sustainable dining promotes cleaner surroundings and a deeper understanding of responsible consumption. This initiative strongly aligns with SDG 12โs goal of ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns, empowering the school community to take active steps toward a more sustainable and environmentally aware future.
